One Cause At A Time
At a young age Christine's father left her mother so her mother had to work at any job she could find to earn some money. Christine's mother has been fighting illnesses all of Christine's life, so when she was sick Christine would have to tend to her as best she could.
A few years ago, they lost the small house that they lived in because they could not afford to pay the rent. They had been attending a neighborhood church and when the church heard what had happened Christine and her mother were invited to stay in a small room that was available behind the church. During the time they lived at the church Christine had to spend many hours a day helping around the church and preparing food for church functions and boarders. Christine was not often able to attend school because there was no money to send her and because she was often need to care for her mother or work.
In 2007 Christine was accepted in to the SIFA Africa Children's Choir and was part of the Together We Can Change the World Tour in 2008. While in the US she was able to make a connection with wonderful sponsors whom she now refers to as mom and dad.
All of these events were great turning points for Christine who returned to Uganda in September 2008 and went on to complete her high school education in December 2009. Christine is now 17 years old and attending her Senior 5 level Education at a boarding school in the city of Kampala, Uganda. Senior 5 is the American equivalent of Community College. Christine has overcome tremendous obstacles in her life and been victorious in an environment and culture which made it nearly impossible for her to succeed.
